Starry Starry Night
Starry starry night!
The term – `Star Parivaar’ holds an interesting pun. For one, there is the obvious reference to the channel, and secondly, the nominees are superstars in their own right
The Vatika Shampoo Star Parivaar Awards 2005, held last week, saw the who’s who of the television industry attend in their resplendent best. What’s unique about the awards is that the nominees are not the actors, but the characters themselves. Put this scenario in a cinematic perspective, and you have Devdas winning instead of a Shah Rukh Khan!
The Awards, in their third year, mark the coming together of all the shows on Star Plus. Interestingly, the categories (favourite beta, naani, naya sadasya and more), encompass the entire spectrum of the typical Indian joint family.
“The awards are a celebration of Har Parivaar, Star Parivaar — it’s about offering our viewers a chance to choose their favourite characters. We had lakhs of votes pour in from all over India. The telecast this evening will be an opportunity for families to spend the evening together with music, dance and celebration,†opines Deepak Segal, executive VP, content, Star India.
Anchored by Babuji, Praful, Jayshree and Himanshu (Instant Khichdi), the awards ceremony was set ablaze by some scintillating performances.
Eijaz and Natassha (Kkavya and Anjali) did their own fun version of Bunty Aur Babli; Shabbir and Reva (Rishi and Damini) danced to the Tumse Milke qawwali from Main Hoon Na. However, the most endearing item was performed by Arun Bali and Rita Badhuri (Dada and Dadi from Kumkum). Deepak Quzir (Babuji from Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki), Manoj Joshi (Mayorsaab from Kehta Hai Dil) and Karishma Tanna (Indu from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) had the young-at-heart dancing to their tunes!
There were other performances too by Varun Badola and Sangita Ghosh, Shakti and Sai (Saara Akash); Hussain and Juhi (Kumkum and Sumeet) and Rahil (Hatim). The show had an interesting mishmash of dance, exciting martial arts, special effects and over-the-top action (directed by Bollywood’s ace action director Allan Amin), all leading to the finale with Favourite Jodis – Karan-Nandini and Millee-Rahul.
Last year’s awards’ telecast was said to have garnered a laudable TVR of 14 — more than the India vs Pakistan cricket matches! What’s it gonna be this time? Join in the family celebrations on Star Plus at 8 pm tonight and see for yourself.
