Two good to be true! Kahani and KavyaAnjali crossover

ON THE SETS Kkavyanjali-Kahaani Ghar Ghar KI

TWO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

It’s almost like a real family gathering, as the stars of Kkavyanjali and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki shoot for a special episode, says Dhaval Roy

Prime time is not named thus for nothing! It is a time slot when the TV-loving junta sits glued to the set for hours together, because they are bombarded with one big serial after the other! They get to see their favourite stars back to back, which is reason enough for them to smile from ear to ear. What happens when they don’t have to wait for one serial to end and the other to begin to get to see their favourite actors in action, and when they can watch two biggies together at the same time? A double treat, right? That’s exactly what it was when Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kkavyanajli were under the same roof !

STARRY, STARRY NIGHT
The special episode personified the galaxy, quite literally, as everywhere you glanced, there were nothing but stars and more stars! The episode was a party sequence with the families of Kahaani… and Kkavyanjali coming together. “It’s just a way of doing something innovative and giving the audience something new time and again,” said the head honcho of Balaji Ekta Kapoor. But the episode is anything but just

a celebration between two families, as there’s something more serious and mean ensuing! Pallavi (Achint Kaur) is hell-bent on having Parvati (Saakshi Tanwar) eliminated from her life in Kahaani, and Nitya (Amrita Singh) is harbouring the same intention for Anjali (Natassha) too. Anjali overhears the conspiracy being discussed and finds out that the victim is Parvati. As she rushes to warn Parvati, one of the two gets shot… who is it, enfolds in the concluding part of the special episode.

ADDICTED TO CHAOS
When one reaches the opulent (obviously!) sets of the serials, it’s a completely chaotic scene around. Director Deepak is yelling instructions, and while everyone lounges around temporarily, they are back to shooting in a second! “It’s so harrowing, there are so many people on the sets,

plus it’s a special episode, so one can not make a single mistake!” says the harried director. And to add to his woes, there has been an electricity failure almost four times on that day, throwing the schedule for a toss for a while. The families are on the dance floor, and the song being played is Dus bahane from Dus. Saakshi is dressed in a beautiful red sari, but the actor keeps to herself in her make-up van most part of the day when not required for her shot.
AMRITA SING(H)ING AND DANCING
Amrita Singh, has lost oodles of weight, and is quite a boisterous woman, as she laughs out heartily at everything and socoalising with all her co-stars. She seems to be getting along particularly well with Keshwar (who plays Vanshita). Like Amrita, Keshwar is also a spritely girl, and looks sexy in a black sari. She tangoes with her costar, and is generally like a young college girl on the sets! While waiting for the camera to roll, Amrita keeps singing ‘Hey now, hey now’ from the song and even breaks into a jig!

ANOTHER KICK IN THE WALL
The lead protagonists of Kkavyanjali, Eijaz Khan and Natassha, make an appearance when required for the scene. One can see Eijaz limping, and on being asked he says, “I kicked a wall! I went home last night, and saw that my dog had messed up the whole place. I’d had such a bad day at shoot that to release the frustration, I kicked the wall, little realising that I wasn’t wearing my shoes!” The actor has bought an apartment just a stone’s

throw away from the sets, to save on the travelling time and traffic. Natassha looks pretty in an orange sari, and yells with delight when she lays her hand on a promotion CD of the serial. To tease her, Shabbir Ahluwalia snatches the disc from her, but she manages to get it right back! On hearing the crackling sound, she punches Shabbir while everyone bursts out laughing.

ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY
The schedule is full of cute moments, and one wonders if it’s really the family culture that the serials endorse that’s rubbing off on the crew. Deepak, Natassha and Amrita all gorge on ice cream, share funnies on Deepak’s cellphone and basically have fun! The most beautiful moment is when the senior actor Asha Sachdev comes to the scene from her room. Everyone gives her the respect that she deserves. “Sat Shri Aakal” Amrita greets her, folding her hands, while Deepak salutes her in an army-like manner, which Asha reciprocates with her own salute! The shoot may be in complete chaos, but the stars aren’t bogged down one bit, and really connect like they are a one big happy family!

Parvati and Anjali have a date with death

Parvati and Anjali have a date with death!

Drama sells! Perhaps more so if it comes from Ekta’s stable.

In what can be called a coup of sorts, Ekta Kapoor and Star Plus have decided to merge the storylines of their two hugely popular shows, Kahanii Ghar Ghar Ki and Kkavyanjali.

With TRPs touching around 11 and 9 respectively, the tracks of both the shows are poised at a very dramatic point. On one hand, Nitya (Amrita Singh) is hell bent on teaching Anjali a lesson and on the other, Pallavi is out to get Parvati — both the shows will merge in a very fast action packed one hour special episode of Kkavyanjali and Kahani…on 12 July, from 9:30 to 10:30 pm.

“This was entirely Ekta’s idea,” says Star India creative director, Shailja Kejriwal, rubbishing Ekta’s efforts to tell us otherwise.

The episodes in question will be high on action as the two protagonists will be pursued and a murder will be attempted. There will be an element of suspense that will be finally revealed in the next half.

Alan Amin, who shot the now famous scene of Ansh’s death in Kyunki…will be shooting the fight sequence here too. “It will involve a lot of drama which will be very fast paced. Which of the two gets shot is the suspense,” says a visibly excited Ekta.

Will the treatment be any different, we ask – “No, we have kept our basic format intact. There will be loads of action. There will be a ticker running throughout the episode and in the background we will have the usual family celebrations going on. The characters of the two shows will come together,” says Ekta, who has planned to shoot a sequence with four bikes and a car on the highway.

There is a very special shot that Ekta is very excited about – “There is a sequence whereby the bullet comes towards the camera and the episode ends there…and we don’t know who his hit! That was a great shot,” says Ekta.

Great shot or not, Balaji is on a roll…all their shows are going great guns, and it is only a matter of time, when they leave all their competition behind…if they haven’t already…

Has that extra letter helped their names?

Has that extra letter in their names helped?

BT asks TV stars, who’ve altered their names as per numerology

RESHMA S KULKARNI

After going through an era of being barraged by tonguetwisting names of TV serials, TV actors are now making drastic alterations to the spellings of their names, in order to beckon lady luck. But does this ploy really work or is it just one amongst the many passing fads that sweep through the industry every once in a while? We decided to ask some of the actors who have altered their spelling, whether the spell-check has helped them in any way. Here’s what they had to say:
“Oh! Certainly. After changing my spelling from Rajeev to Rajev, I have noticed an upward trend in my career and also my personal life. For starters, I began getting great offers. After a long time, there came a point in my career wherein I was doing a positive role (in Twinkle Beauty Parlour) and a negative role (in Kaavyanjali on Star Plus) simultaneously. Of course, though what happened with Twinkle… is quite unfortunate, yet I maintain that it was this serial that helped me got more noticed, with the result that people have started approaching me with unique roles. So, I definitely feel that the spellchange has helped me a lot” says Rajev Paul, whose success story influenced his wife Delnazz and brother Rakeshh to emulate Rajev and both are happy with the effects.
Says Delnazz, “Rather than limiting the effects to just getting good work, I can vouch for the fact that I can feel a positive energy around me, whether it’s at work or in my personal relationships. Apart from the fact that I am getting some great work, after I changed the spelling, there has also been a sea-change in the way my relations with my family members and colleagues have improved.”
Rakeshh Paaul, who has changed the spelling of not only his name, but also his surname, says excitedly, “It has been just fifteen days since I made this change but I have already started getting positive vibes, in terms of work and otherwise. The numerologist not only suggested a change in the spelling but also guided me about the way I need to alter the flow of my handwriting and my signature, as also about the colours that I should use and avoid. All this is helping me a lot, as I can tell from my fortnight-long experiences.”
Another actor who’s
taken the
alteration
thing a bit
too far and is
pretty satisfied
about it is, Nikkhil
Arya, who not only changed the spelling, but also his surname entirely! “Yes, it’s true, though not many people know it, that my real surname is Sakhrani and not Arya!” Whoa! That’s a shocker! “Initially when I was trying to get a foothold in the industry, I was advised to go in for a more filmy name. My mother was adamant that the name be such that it brings me success; she believes quite a lot in these things and when we consulted the numerologist, he suggested the name Arya. Well, as for whether it has helped me or not, I’d say that yes, things have moved really nicely after I made the change, but still I’d like to attribute my success to my parents blessings, my hard work and ultimately my destiny. I went in for the name change only to make my mom happy. I feel that if I was not destined for such success, it would not have come to me, no matter what I did. These alterations are actually only a manifestation of an actor’s insecurity, which is so rampant in an unpredictable industry like ours.”
Nikkhil’s line of thought is reiterated by Suddhaunshu Pandey and Anita Hasanandani, both, who despite having gone in for a spelling change; feel that ultimately, it’s your fate that matters. Says Suddhaunshu, “Though I have changed my spelling and have also got a fair amount of success after I did that, I’d like to believe that the success is more a product of my hard work and good karma, rather than the spelling change. If only by altering one’s spelling, one could get success, what would be the need to work? One would just alter the spelling and wait for success to come to him without doing anything.”
Anita, who reverted back to her original name after a brief stint with the name Natassha, says that she feels good to be back to her old name. “A new name makes you feel as if you have lost your identity. Also, to begin with, I was never a believer in numerology. I went in for the change, just for a lark – I did get some great offers during that
stint, but then even after reverting back to being Anita, I am doing fine enough. ” As for Moulli Ganguly, the story related to her spelling change is quite amusing. Mouli, who now spells her name as Moulli insists that, that was what her spelling actually was to begin with! “I’m having a tough time explaining to people that I have not altered my spelling; Moulli is my original spelling. After coming into the industry, my name was spelt in various ways and I would not be very bothered about it till the time I read a few books on numerology, which suggested that it is better to stick to one spelling, preferably, that which gives you good vibrations. I also had been encountering problems due to my name being spelt differently in different documents. So, essentially, to overcome that problem, I decided to stick to my original spelling,” says Moulli.
“Though what has to happen will always happen, small remedies like numerology give us the strength to behave in a manner that will mitigate the intensity of tough times. So, if by inculcating such small remedies in our lives, we are able to better it in some way, why not do it?” she adds.
