Nana Patekar is a phenomenon: Anita Hassanandani

From Santabanta-

Anita Hassanandani has come a long way from being a model to debuting in Balaji production “Kabhi Sautan, Kabhi Saheli”, to featuring in films like “Krishna Cottage” and “Koi Aap Sa”. Now she is all set to enter “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”. Anita speaks about her onscreen experience so far.

Q: You will be entering “Kyunki” soon, how did you get this offer?

A: They called me up and I too was interested in the offer since I had not been working for a long time. I knew that I am not doing a lead, which would have required me to work around the clock for 25-28 days a month. That was another reason why I accepted the cameo role.

Q: What’s your role in the serial?

A: As I said, I am doing a cameo. I play Nakul’s love interest, a very simple character who changes his life. I have a regular part which will last at least two to three months.

Q: What made you shift from modeling to acting in serials?

A: One has to move ahead and keep experimenting. I was interested in acting so I started giving auditions.

Q: What’s your role in Sanjay Gupta’s “Dus Kahaniyan”?
A: The film is a compilation of 10 stories. I am playing a newly-wed in one of them titled “Gubbare”. My coactors are Nana Patekar and Rohit Roy.

Q: How was the experience of working with Nana Patekar?

A: It was brilliant, I had apprehensions before but they were cleared once I started working. Nanaji is a phenomenon. One gets to learn so much from him.

Q: Do you think you will be able to work both in films and television at the same time?

A: I would love to do both. But it’s very difficult, especially if you are playing the lead in a serial. A lead actor in a daily soap is required to work 25-28 days a month, which makes it impossible to commit for any other project.

Q: You made your debut with Balaji Telefilms and since then you have worked with them on many occasions. How has your experience been of working with Ekta Kapoor?
A: It’s been a wonderful experience for me till now. Balaji is a nice production house and things get executed according to plans. Ekta Kapoor personally takes care of everything. I am aware of various actors who have said it was tough to work with Balaji Telefilms, and that it was too tedious.

Well, I have never had any tiff with them to date, and as far as the word hectic is concerned, whichever production house you work with, if you are playing the lead role in a daily soap you will definitely run short of time. It’s hectic everywhere, not just in Balaji.

Q: Your future projects?

A: Actually, I haven’t worked for a long time, so at present, I am enjoying working in ‘Kyunki’. I am not involved with any other project as of now.

Q: Your inclination is towards movies or television?

A: As I said, I would love to do both, but yes, I am more inclined towards films. -Jayant Mishra

The Big Crossover – Article on TV actors taking the plunge for Bollywood

TimesofIndia, Aug 29

As more and more small screen superstars take the big screen plunge, AT finds out what next
It’s the most obvious route. Small screen’s brightest stars are seldom content with their soapy success and often want to explore opportunities on 35 mm. Television is seen as a detour to films.
Even though television’s successful imports to Bollywood – Aman Verma, Amarr Upadhay , Anita Hassanandani, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Arif Zakaria, Mandira Bedi – et al haven’t really found filmi glory yet, that hasn’t prevented a new bunch of stars to think Bollywood
. Mona Singh, for example , is training to get into an hour-glass shape and is brushing up her Hindi for a career in films.
Ditto for Sanjeeda Sheikh, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Aamna Shariff , Eijaz Khan, Sonal Saigal, Rajeev Khandelwal and Karishma Tanna who have shifted attention to films.

Chetan Hansraj who’s done cameos in Asambhav, has just completed a Telugu film and admits that, “market has opened up for TV actors now. Apart from money, big screen fame is heady.
I enjoy doing films,” he says. Sanjeeda Sheikh who’s doing two prime time shows ( Kayamath and forthcoming Nach Baliye3 ) has been offered some films but she firmly points out, “Everyone dreams of working in Bollywood. I want to be in films too. But I will never quit television because that’s where I started from. I’d rather do TV soaps than a cameo or a C grade film.”

For small screen heartthrob Eijaz Khan (who’s played the lead in TV shows Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka and Kavyanjali ), films are what he’d like to do. Eijaz started off doing cameos in Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Zameen and Just Married and is playing the lead in Meerabai Not Out . But he sounds cautious, “Films just happened to me. I wanted to take a break and I got an offer for films too at the same time. The other offers are still in the pipeline, so I don’t want to talk about it.”

Rajeev Khandelwal who’s essayed lead roles in Kahin To Hoga, Time Bomb and Left Right Left has been approached by hard-hitting filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for his new production. Rajeev is tight lipped about his films. Sonal Saigal, who played an important role in Sara Akash and the lead role in Hotel Kingston, is wrapping up Nagesh Kukunoor’s Aashayein opposite John Abraham and claims to have given up on television for “now” . Others like Aamna Shariff, Karishma Tanna and Nausheen Ali Sardar have also taken a “break” from TV to chase their Bollywood dreams.

Not everyone’s willing to take the big screen plunge though. Hiten Tejwani (who’s played important roles in Jogger’s Park, Anwar and Krishna Cottage) and Shabbir Ahluwalia (Shootout At Lokhandwala) are more comfortable doing television. Hiten Tejwani points out, “I don’t have a godfather in the film industry who’ll offer me good roles on a platter. I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to good films, but I like television.”

And if some of these big screen treks turn out to be box-office winner then expect more such cross-overs .

What do you think?

Anita to play Sanchi in Kyunki; talks of a new show in the pipeline (maybe)

Denying the rumours that post-Kavyanjali her friendship with Ekta Kapoor had run into rough weather Anita Hasnandani says that nothing had gone wrong between her and Ekta. “Just because I didn’t do a Balaji show in the last one year doesn’t mean that our friendship has soured,” says Anita who is all set to join Kyunki where she will replace a lesser known actress as Sanchi.Ask her why she chose Kyunki instead of a new show for her comeback, she feels Kyunki is the number one show where she has a good role. “It’s a nice positive character. Sanchi is a sweet girl who comes into Nakul’s life and becomes his love interest. He has gone through a lot in life and has become quite cynical. But Sanchi brings a huge change in his life,” she adds.

Naman Shaw who plays Nakul is happy that his character in Kyunki is getting its due finally. “I joined Kyunki a year ago, but Nakul was just one of the characters in the Virani family. Nothing dramatic could have happened to Nakul because the show has so many characters that it is difficult to expect something big immediately. I waited and finally I am getting what I wanted as Nakul will now become a very important character in the show. In fact, Ekta brought in Anita to play Sanchi because she wanted a well-known face for the Nakul-Sanchi track to make the required impact,” says Naman.

He however, refrains from revealing anything further about how the track will develop but says that something very dramatic will happen. Quiz Anita on whether her entry in Kyunki will have a longer inning and she says nothing is certain as yet. But a new Balaji show for her is certainly in the pipeline. “Talks are going on and there is something interesting happening,” she says.

Eijaz-Anita Videos and Pix from Star Azaadi Express

These come from Rick – A BIG THANK YOU! Do visit the Shweta Tiwari site for her dance in karam apna apna if you are a fan.

Anita looks like a pari; Eijaz is trying an Elvis. On the whole, the performances were good, the Eijaz-Anita duet on Tenu Leke was the best of the lot. Anita lip-syncing Aye Mere Watan looking like a million dollars and Eijaz the angry young man doing Baar Baar come second to the duet. I guess EA do best when they are together :) But I should add that the Anita solo on Mohini Bagama and Jogan Jogan was simply mindblowing!
