Sheâ€™s back in another slasher flick. Natassha talks about Krishna Cottage to Nicole Dastur

Â Â Â How is Krishna Cottage different from your first film, Kucch To Hai, considering both are of the same genre?
The two films are completely different. Kucch To Hai was a thriller whereas Krishna Cottage is an out and out horror film, complete with screams and chills, that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats. It is a romantic thriller, the theme being that of obsessive love gone wrong. There are twists in the storyline that will keep one guessing right till the end. The element of fear runs throughout the film.
Â Â Â You said itâ€™s a romantic thriller. So is there a love-story involved?
Yeah, but itâ€™s not the conventional love story. It involves a love triangle, but there is a thin line between falling in love and possessing the one you love. Love is accompanied by terror, fear, suspicion and obsession.
Â Â Â What is your role in the film?
In the first half, I play a typical collegegoing girl who is talkative and full of life. My character undergoes a drastic change in the second half. She becomes extremely quiet. Something happens because of which she undergoes a complete change of personality. The character I portray is again very different from the one I played in Kucch To Hai.
Â Â Â How is it like to work with the Ekta Kapoor banner?
I am extremely comfortable working with Ekta since this is my second film with her. There was a good rapport amongst all of us on the sets since Iâ€™ve worked with her previously.
Â Â Â Was there any particular incident during the shooting of Krishna Cottage that you wonâ€™t forget for a while?
Oh yes! One particular night, we were shooting an extremely scary scene, with insects crawling out of a characterâ€™s face. We finished the shoot at 4 am. I was so scared after that, that I could not sleep for the next two nights.
Â Â Â Before your entry into Bollywood, you were doing films down South. Have you made a permanent shift to Bollywood now?
For now Iâ€™m concentrating on Bollywood, but I am still open to doing films down South. If I get good offers, I will definitely take them up. I have no qualms about working on Bollywood and South films simultaneously.

ON HIS DIRECTORIAL DEBUT:

I have been associated with Ekta Kapoor for over three years now. When I was directing the hit thriller series Kahin Kisi Roz for her, Ekta came up with the idea for her next home production.

ON KRISHNA COTTAGE:

Itâ€™s a supernatural thriller with a difference. I know it sounds cliched to call your film different. But it indeed is with a strong undercurrent of emotions thatâ€™s brought out in a love triangle. It certainly is not a crude, crass horror flick. FEAR being the essence of the narration.

ON WORKING WITH EKTA:

Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious. She is definitely a truly involved producer. In fact, we both share the zest and zeal to create something really good. I must also mention Sohail Khan, Ishaa Koppikar & Natassha for their tremendous support and total faith in me, despite my being a firsttime director.

ON ANU MALIKâ€™S MUSIC:

Anu Malik has given a superhit number Bindaas which is already a chart-topper and his soulful number Suna Suna is hauntingly romantic. The background score and special effects have heightened the fear and scare impact terrifically.

ISH! A scary movie

The scary fest began last year with Ram gopal Varma’s Bhoot and this year Ekta Kapoor is hoping to cash in on the trend with her Krishna Cottage. â€˜Based on a book no one should read’, her new film warns you before shots of the lead actors singing tuneful ditties engulf you. â€˜â€˜Krishna Cottage is a love story with a lot of thrills and chills thrown in,â€ says actress Isha Koppikar throwing back her blonde coloured mane.
The movie also stars Sohail Khan and Natassha, the Ding Dong girl from Ektaâ€™s last film Kuch to Hai. â€˜â€˜The film begins as any other campus film, but somewhere along things change drastically,â€says Sohail Khan.
The filmâ€™s promos suggest a love triangle between Koppikar, Khan and Natasha as we see the actor romancing both the women, but the actors are not telling. â€˜â€˜To reveal anything would be to give the storyline away. But love in this film apart from evoking the usual reactions of happiness and tears, also brings out something else – - fear,â€ grins Koppikar.
The film has been shot in Mumbai and Auli in Uttaranchal, where a part of a song and the climax has been filmed. The weather conditions were tough but Koppikar and Khan describe it as â€˜â€˜a memorable shoot. Since the sun sets at five in the evening there and we needed daylight, we were up everyday by five in the morning. Can you imagine doing that in minus temperature?” she says cheekily.
Adding to her woes was the fact that she had to be wearing a chiffon outfit. â€˜â€˜As soon as the director would

for cut, I would be immediately engulfed by a shawl, my hands stuffed into gloves, a monkey cap crammed on my head and a cup of steaming tea thrust at me,” she reveals.
The name of the film evokes curiosity. â€˜â€˜I was a little taken aback myself since Krishna is also a God, but the film is not about a cottage alone. People speculate if it is about a cottage where a group of students take refuge and then are killed one by one. And I say no!â€says Koppikar.
Horror and love story all rolled into one — that according to the filmstars is the USP of the film and Sohail Khan is prompt to reply, â€˜â€˜We are all characters in the films, shelled in, it’s the script that is the King.â€’ Both stars are hopeful about the fate of their upcoming venture at the box office, â€˜â€˜because a good film always works.â€
And how was it working with Ekta Kapoor? â€˜â€˜Oh it was wonderful. She is very dedicated,” says Sohail while Isha adds, â€˜â€˜Her dedication is to be seen to be believed. She knew the dialogues of every scene that was being canned,â€’ gushed Isha.
While Ekta’s last film was a disaster, it remains to be seen whether the ghosts of Krishna Cottage can carry the film at the box office.

USUAL love stories make you cry, but this love story scares you more than anything. Weâ€™re talking about Krishna Cottage, which is more than just a love triangle. Actually itâ€™s an amazing murder mystery. The film starring Sohail Khan, Ishaa Koppikar, Natassha and Rati Agnihotri is slated for all India release in April, but the movieâ€™s music soundtrack has already hit the jackpot. Distributed by Times Music, it comprises three peppy tracks including the Bindaas song, which is on everyoneâ€™s lips, and two romantic melodious numbers tuned by Anu Malik. Planet M in Banjara Hills will host a special appearance of the filmâ€™s star cast on Monday evening. At least you can get to ask them whodunit?

People in the trade insist that Ektaa kapoor may not take her brother Tusshar in her movies but there’s no way she’s not going to sign on her favorite star Natassha.

Like it’s happened in the case of the new Balaji film Krishna Cottage. The promos are focused totally on Natassha and to give ghe girl her due credit, she looks quite ravishing-perhaps even better than some of our better-known actresses. And so what if Ekta promotes her in such a huge way? What’s wrong in promoting someone who has the talent and is worth it?Like Natassha herself says, “Balaji is a professionally managed company.

Natassha has acted in Kuch To Hai and Yeh Dil
After stealing your hearts as the vulnerable Tanu in the serial Kabhi Souten Kabhi Saheli, 15th Road resident Natassha quickly moved to the silver screen with Kuch To Hai and then Yeh Dil.

The actress, who has also acted in nearly 10 South Indian films, talks about Krishna Cottage, her next Hindi film due for release on April 2.

Excerpts from the interview

What is Krishna Cottage all about?
Krishna Cottage is a horror film with a lot of scary and supernatural things happening in this house called Krishna Cottage.

Santram Varma, the director of television thriller Kahin Kissi Roz, is the director of the film. He has made the movie heart-stopping with special effects that will make your hair stand on end.

What is your role in the film?
I play this girl called Shanti, who is very talkative and bubbly in the beginning of the film. But then one day she is a witness to an incident that has a strong impact on her and brings about a drastic change in her
personality. It is a performance oriented role.

Your co-stars in the film are Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar. How was it working with them?
We had a ball. Sohail works a lot on his roles and what I liked best about him is that despite being a director himself he never interfered in any aspect of the filmâ€™s direction. It was really nice to work with Isha and we had a great time, especially during shooting the spooky scenes when we would try and scare each other.

Your real name is Anita. Why did you change it to Natassha?
I am still known as Anita in Hyderabad. I was christened Natassha by Ekta Kapoor when she signed me for Kuch To Hai, mainly for numerological reasons. But whether as Anita or Natassha I want to do good work and be a successful actress.

Your first two films did not do well at the box office?
Thatâ€™s true. But my work was appreciated a lot, especially in Kuch To Hai, in which I played a negative character.

What are your forthcoming films?
I have two more projects coming up. There is a romantic film with Balaji, which goes on the floors in April and another film by director E Niwas with Aftab Shivdasani.

What is your dream?
My dream is to make it big in Bollywood.
